Background
On June 23, 2008 the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) issued an Order establishing an Energy Efficiency Portfolio
Standard (EEPS) for New York State. On July 27, 2009, the PSC issued a subsequent order. In this Order, all New York State utilities were required to have
programs to serve the small business customer group.
The Commercial and Industrial Rebate Program is in accordance with a November 2009 New York State Public Service Commission order approving commercial and
industrial efficiency programs for utilities across the state. The program is funded by the System Benefits Charge on electricity customers’ bills.
The purpose of the program is to lower energy use and save money for nonresidential commercial, industrial and institutional customers and municipalities.
